Relationships Education
At Carmountside Primary Academy, Relationships Education is an important part of our Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) curriculum. We are committed to helping every child develop the knowledge, skills, values and confidence they need to build positive relationships, stay safe, and thrive both now and in the future.
Through a carefully planned, age-appropriate curriculum, pupils learn about families, friendships, respect, kindness, communication, personal boundaries, and the importance of treating others with care and understanding. They also develop the skills to recognise healthy relationships, manage emotions, seek support when needed, and make informed decisions about their wellbeing.
In line with the updated statutory Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) guidance, our curriculum supports children to understand personal safety, online wellbeing, and the changing world around them. Learning is delivered in a safe, inclusive and respectful environment where every child is valued, listened to and encouraged to participate.
We believe that strong partnerships between school and home are essential. We work closely with parents and carers to ensure that our Relationships Education curriculum reflects our shared commitment to helping children become happy, healthy, respectful and responsible members of society.
All the Jigsaw PSHE content and mapping has now been updated in line with the RSHE Guidance for Key Stages 1-4 from the DfE, which is now statutory for schools in England.
The Role of Parents and Carers
Parents and carers play a vital role in helping children develop an understanding of healthy relationships, positive values, and personal wellbeing. As a child’s first and most important educators, they have a significant influence on their development, helping them to build confidence, resilience, and respectful relationships with others.
At Carmountside Primary Academy, we value the importance of strong partnerships with families. We are committed to keeping parents and carers fully informed about the aims and content of our Relationships Education curriculum and providing opportunities to view resources, ask questions, and discuss any aspects of learning. By working together, we can support children in developing the knowledge, skills, and understanding they need to build positive relationships, stay safe, and thrive both online and offline.
