PE Grant 2020/21
The government is providing additional funding to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding ‐ provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport ‐ will be allocated to primary school headteachers.
This funding is ring‐fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.
Carmountside Primary Academy has received an additional £17,740 to spend on PE for 2020/21
This is an opportunity to further develop PE provision in our school. A large proportion of the funding for this year will be spent on employing PE specialists to work alongside our staff & pupils to deliver high quality PE lessons and promote leadership. Staff will benefit by receiving weekly professional development which will improve their skill levels and confidence in delivering PE. Pupils will benefit as they will be participating in high quality PE lessons and the range of sports on offer will be extended as well as offering more extra-curricular clubs. We will also improve our playground facilities to promote a range of activities as well as more opportunties for pupils to compete with other schools.
Due to restrictions and reduced hours and on-site provision related to coronavirus (COVID-19) some of the planned Intent for the use of our PE was not met and has had to be adapted for more virtual provision. These objectives will be conducted where possible when school hours and risk assessment permits and/or carried over to the next academic year. Our unspent grant will also be carried forward into the 2021 to 2022 academic year.
In our year 6 cohort we currently have 40% of children who are meeting the national curriculum requirement to swim compentently, confidently and proficiently over at least 25 metres using a range of strokes effectively and can perform self-rescue in different water-based situations.
