Our Early Years Curriculum
At Carmountside, our Early Years curriculum follows the EYFS Framework (September 2025) and provides a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment where every child can thrive.
Our curriculum is ambitious and inclusive, with a strong focus on developing children’s communication and language, early reading and mathematics, alongside their personal, social and emotional development. We use a balance of play-based learning and adult-led teaching to ensure children gain the knowledge, skills and confidence they need.
We place great importance on talk, vocabulary and storytelling, helping children become confident communicators. Early reading is taught through a systematic phonics programme, and mathematical understanding is developed through practical, hands-on experiences.
Children learn through exploration, play and meaningful first-hand experiences in both indoor and outdoor environments. Our skilled staff support learning through high-quality interactions, ensuring each child’s needs and interests are met.
We work closely with parents and carers to support children’s development and provide a strong foundation for future learning.
By the end of Reception, children are confident, independent learners who are well prepared for the transition to Year 1.
