Art
Our intent for Art is to inspire creativity and confidence in every pupil through a broad, progressive curriculum based on the National Curriculum, enabling them to develop practical skills in a range of media, evaluate artwork critically and learn about significant artists and traditions.
Key aims
- Create: Pupils produce original, imaginative work using drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture and digital media.
- Develop skills: Pupils build technical competence and control with materials and processes.
- Evaluate: Pupils reflect on and critique their own and others’ work, using appropriate vocabulary.
- Know: Pupils gain knowledge of notable artists, craft makers and designers from diverse cultures and historical periods.
Design and Technology
Our intent for Design and Technology is to equip pupils with the knowledge, skills and confidence to design, make and evaluate purposeful products, applying creativity, practical skills and technical understanding in meaningful, real-world contexts.
Key aims
- Design: Pupils identify needs, research users and generate clear, purposeful design ideas and plans.
- Make: Pupils select and use appropriate tools, materials and techniques safely and skilfully to realise their designs.
- Evaluate: Pupils test and critique their own and others’ products against clear design criteria and user needs, making improvements.
- Technical knowledge: Pupils learn how materials, mechanisms, structures, electrical systems and computing principles work and how to apply them.
- Cooking and nutrition: Pupils develop basic food preparation skills, understand healthy eating and follow food safety routines.
- Progressive skills development: Pupils build practical, problem-solving and resilience skills through a sequenced curriculum that increases in complexity.
- Real-world and cultural links: Pupils explore the work of designers, engineers and makers, and apply learning to purposeful contexts that connect to everyday life.
