Carmountside Community Pre-school
At Carmountside, our preschool provision for 2-year-olds provides a warm, nurturing and stimulating environment where children feel safe, valued and ready to learn.
We are proud to be an accredited Curiosity Approach setting. This means our environment and teaching are inspired by approaches such as Reggio Emilia, Montessori and Steiner, placing a strong emphasis on natural resources, open-ended play and awe and wonder. Instead of plastic toys, children explore carefully chosen, real-life and sensory materials such as wood, metal and fabric, which encourage creativity, imagination and deep thinking. Our calm, homely spaces are designed to spark curiosity and allow children the time and freedom to explore, investigate and learn at their own pace.
Learning Through Play
Children learn through play, exploration and first-hand experiences. Our carefully planned environment encourages curiosity and independence, allowing children to make choices and follow their interests while being supported by skilled adults who interact, model language and extend learning.
Communication and Language
We place a strong emphasis on developing speech and language, as this underpins all learning. Through songs, stories, conversations and play, children are supported to build vocabulary, express their needs and begin to communicate with confidence.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
We help children develop secure relationships with adults and peers in a caring and supportive environment. Children learn to feel safe and settled, develop confidence and independence, and begin to share, take turns and play alongside others.
Physical Development
Children have daily opportunities to develop their gross and fine motor skills through a range of indoor and outdoor activities. This helps them build strength, coordination and confidence in their movements.
A Rich and Enabling Environment
Our indoor and outdoor spaces are thoughtfully designed to:
- support curiosity and exploration
- encourage creativity and imagination
- promote calm, purposeful play through natural and open-ended resources
Working with Families
We work closely with parents and carers to ensure a smooth and positive start to preschool. Strong partnerships enable us to understand each child’s needs and support their development both at home and in our setting.
