Computing Intent Statement

At Carmountside, we aim to deliver a high-quality computing curriculum that equips pupils with the knowledge, skills and understanding to thrive in an increasingly digital world. We provide a broad, balanced and progressive curriculum that ensures our pupils develop confidence, creativity and competence in computing.

Our curriculum is carefully structured around the three core strands of computing:

Computer Science

Pupils develop computational thinking through algorithms and programming. They design, create and debug programs while building logical reasoning and problem-solving skills.

Information Technology

Pupils use technology purposefully to create and present digital content. They learn to organise data and produce media.

Digital Literacy

Pupils learn to use technology safely, responsibly and respectfully. They develop an understanding of their digital footprint and how to engage positively online.

Online Safety

Online safety is embedded throughout our computing curriculum and reinforced across the wider school community. Pupils are taught how to:

• Stay safe online and protect personal information

• Recognise risks, including cyberbullying and inappropriate content

• Understand privacy, consent and respectful communication

• Report concerns confidently and know where to seek help
