Writing
At Carmountside Primary Academy, we are committed to developing confident, capable and enthusiastic writers who can communicate effectively for a range of purposes and audiences. Writing is a fundamental life skill and a key driver for success across the curriculum. Our intent is to ensure that all pupils acquire the knowledge, skills and strategies necessary to become independent and fluent writers.
We aim to immerse children in rich, high-quality texts and meaningful writing experiences that inspire creativity, develop vocabulary and deepen understanding of language. Through a carefully sequenced and progressive curriculum, pupils are taught the essential components of writing, including transcription (spelling and handwriting), composition (planning, drafting and editing) and the accurate use of grammar and punctuation.
A strong emphasis is placed on developing pupils’ spoken language, as we recognise that high-quality talk underpins effective writing. Pupils are provided with opportunities to rehearse ideas orally, explore vocabulary and structure sentences before writing. High expectations are maintained across all year groups to ensure that pupils take pride in their work and achieve to the best of their ability.
