EY

Learning Environment

Our indoor and outdoor learning environments are carefully planned to encourage curiosity, creativity and communication. Children have daily opportunities to explore a wide range of activities that support their development across all areas of the EYFS framework, including:

  • Communication and Language
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development
  • Literacy and Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

The environment is language‑rich, well‑resourced and flexible, allowing children to follow their interests while being guided by skilled adults.

Nursery and Reception at Carmountside Primary School

At Carmountside Primary School, our Nursery and Reception classes work closely together as one Early Years Foundation Stage unit. This strong partnership ensures a smooth, supportive and consistent start to school life for our youngest children.

Our Early Years Approach

We believe that children learn best through play, exploration and meaningful interactions. Our Early Years curriculum is designed to be engaging, inclusive and developmentally appropriate, supporting each child to grow in confidence and independence.

Nursery and Reception staff work collaboratively to plan learning activities that build progressively on children’s skills and experiences. This shared approach allows children to transition smoothly from Nursery into Reception, with familiar routines, expectations and adults.

Working Together as a Team

Our Nursery and Reception team work as a unified staff group, sharing expertise, training and assessments to ensure a consistent approach to teaching and learning. Carefully planned transitions, joint activities and shared celebrations help children feel secure and confident as they move through the Early Years.

Partnership with Parents and Carers

We value strong partnerships with parents and carers and recognise the vital role you play in your child’s development. We encourage regular communication and welcome families into school through meetings, stay‑and‑play sessions and shared learning opportunities. By working together, we ensure that each child receives the best possible start to their learning journey.

If you would like to find out more about our Nursery and Reception provision, please contact the school office or arrange a visit — we would be delighted to welcome you.
