Geography
At Carmountside, we believe that Geography stimulates curiosity and imagination and we aim to build upon the child’s “personal geography” by developing geographical skills, understanding and knowledge through studying places and themes.
Through delivery of a knowledge rich creative curriculum in geography, children learn about their local area and the physical and human features within it. They can compare their life in this area with that of other regions in the UK and the rest of the world. Children’s spirituality is deepened through an appreciation of life in other cultures and a sense of wonder and fascination with the world.
Geography teaching also motivates children to achieve whilst finding out about the physical world. It enables them to recognise the effect of people’s behaviour encouraging their own growth when focussing on sustainable development for the future of mankind. Fieldwork is an integral part of learning, allowing children to study a variety of locations as they progress through the school.
