Our Curriculum Intent Statement
The aim of Carmountside’s Curriculum is to provide opportunities for children to develop as independent, confident, successful learners with high aspirations who know how to make a positive contribution to their community and the wider society.
We plan our curriculum to ensure it has sufficient breadth, balance and relevance for each child. Pupils at all levels are helped to achieve their potential. Those who are most able are challenged and encouraged to expand their skills and knowledge through varied curriculum opportunities. Those who find learning difficult are given targeted support to embed skills, to develop at their own pace and to learn in a style that best suits their individual needs.
We use the Learning Challenge Curriculum as this approach secures greater learning involvement, builds on children’s prior knowledge and helps them to develop into creative, confident learners who are keen to take risks, collaborate and persevere. It is these qualities which we feel are vital for success in life as well as learning.
To create:
- Successful, life-long learners, who enjoy learning and are prepared for the next stage of their journey.
- Confident individuals who are able to live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives.
- Responsible citizens who respect everyone’s uniqueness and make a positive contribution to society.
To develop a curriculum which:
- Allows everyone to experience success.
- Raises standards of attainment.
- Takes into account individual needs.
- Develops language capability to support reading and writing.
